Protect Moms and Cubs Challenge
February 20 - March 5, 2021
In honour of International Polar Bear Day - February 27
YOUR IMPACT · Thanks so much for the amazing support of this community! We set an original goal of $50,000 to launch the development and testing of a new tool, but the project's total cost is $200,000—and we really appreciate any help you can give. By protecting dens, you'll protect cubs, helping to ensure their future.
Join us to help ensure the polar bear's future
Polar Bears International’s mission is to save polar bears and the sea ice they depend on. Every year, on February 27th, we host International Polar Bear Day to draw attention to the threats polar bears face in a warming Arctic and how we each can help. This year our focus is on moms and cubs.
Right now, polar bear moms and their newborn cubs are snuggled together in snow dens across the Arctic. However, they are extremely vulnerable while they’re denning, with survival rates of just 50 percent or less for many cubs.
The Protect Moms and Cubs Challenge provides you an opportunity to leverage your network of friends, family, and colleagues to make a real impact in funding our efforts to develop a better tool for finding polar bear dens. By protecting dens, you'll protect cubs, helping to ensure their future.
Protect their future and save ours.
Start your own fundraiser
Take our Protect Moms and Cubs Challenge by starting a fundraiser! The donations you raise will help us develop a promising new tool to find and map den locations to make sure moms and cubs aren’t disturbed.
Joining is as simple as 1-2-3.
You have the opportunity to personalize your challenge and your goal! Whether you make a $5 or $25 donation, invite your friends, family, and colleagues to match your contribution.
For example, Fundraiser John donates $5 and challenges 100 of his friends to match him. At the same time, Fundraiser Sally donates $25 and invites 20 of her friends to do the same. Both John and Sally raise $500 to help fund the den-detection project and protect moms and cubs.
The Protect Moms and Cubs Challenge runs until March 5, 2021. Prizes will be rewarded to the top three individual fundraisers.
